Beer can be delivered with food in Pennsylvania

Beer can be delivered with food in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (LCB) has recently ruled that restaurants, grocery stores, pizza and sub shops, and other food and beer serving outlets to deliver up to two six packs of beers (up to 192 ounces.) The ruling comes with a few catches for both the retailer and the consumer. For instance, consumers ordering beer must pay by credit card over the phone, instead of handing money to the delivery person. Retailers must have a “transporter for hire license,” which can cost about $1,000, which depends on the type of establishment. Retailers with this license can transport up to 192 ounces (or just over two six packs of beer.) This license has been around for quite a while, and the ruling simply clarified that establishments selling food...

Lancaster County enforces new DUI repeat-offender program

Lancaster County enforces new DUI repeat-offender program

If a person is charged with DUI in Lancaster County, they might not feel like a lawbreaker right away with consequences not occurring until they go to court, which can be up to a year to year and a half after the incident. Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman has changed that with a new DUI repeat-offender program. Now police will deal with it right away, and suspected drunk drivers will be arrested and arraigned in court immediately. If they don’t take you to jail that day, you will be ordered not to drink and will have to wear a monitoring bracelet. “People who are on the monitoring system will have greater incentive to get their case resolved sooner because many people don’t want to have a bracelet,” Stedman said. Between...

Pennsylvania Politician Gets Jail for DUI Driving Under the Influence

Pennsylvania Politician Gets Jail for DUI Driving Under the Influence

A former state lawmaker from Lehigh County has been sentenced to at least three months in prison following his arrest for DUI driving under the influence and assaulting his wife. Former State Representative Joseph Brennan (D) was arrested in August 2012 after he punched and choked his wife at their home in Lehigh County, then drove away while under the influence of alcohol. This was his second DUI arrest in two years. He pleaded guilty to the domestic violence simple assault and driving under the influence charges, and was sentenced on Thursday. After a request from his wife, Brennan was able to avoid a jail sentence for the domestic violence simple assault charge. However, since this was his second DUI conviction in the last two years, he was sentenced to serve...

Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent has been arrested for DUI driving under the influence and manslaughter stemming from a crash on Saturday that resulted in the death of a teammate. The accident happened about 2:20 a.m. Saturday in a Dallas suburb, hours before Brent was to be on a team flight to Cincinnati for the Cowboys’ game Sunday against the Bengals. Brent was responsive when police arrived at the scene of the accident, and able to speak with officers. Teammate Jerry Brown Jr., a 25-year-old  on the Cowboys’ practice roster, was unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Brent was allegedly speeding when his vehicle hit a curb and flipped over. When the officers arrived at the state highway service road,...

Bobby Brown Pleads Not Guilty to Third DUI Driving Under the Influence

Bobby Brown pleaded not guilty to his third DUI arrest. The most recent two drunk driving arrests occurred within the last 7 months. The New Edition singer and former husband of late icon Whitney Houston entered the not guilty plea on Friday through his lawyer, opting to skip a personal court appearance. The judge accepted the plea and ordered Brown to attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings each week until the next court hearing. Brown was pulled over around 1 a.m. on October 24, 2012, for erratic driving in Tarzana, California. After detecting the odor of alcohol, the police asked that he exit his vehicle and take field sobriety tests, which he failed. Brown had previously been arrested in Los Angeles in March for talking on his cell phone while driving and...

Jessica and Ashlee Simpson’s Dad Pleads to DUI Drunk Driving

Joe Simpson, father of Ashlee and Jessica Simpson, pleaded no contest to the charge of drunk driving and will serve three years of probation and attend an alcohol education class. The former minister entered the plea to one misdemeanor count of DUI through his attorney. A second count was dismissed. He avoided a potential prison sentence of up to a year in jail by pleading no contest to the DUI charge. Simpson was pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI sobriety checkpoint about 10 p.m. last August on Ventura Boulevard in the Sherman Oaks area of L.A. He submitted to a breath test to determine his BAC, and spent the night in jail after his arrest. Charged with a DUI? Contact the Law Offices of Michelle A. Fioravanti at 484-876-1543...
